factions of the san saba
These mechanics are for the 3.0 ruleset.
Society Memberships are recorded on a character’s sheet to represent that a character is an official member of a gang, group, or organization that exists in a local branch of the Dystopia Rising Network. Societies do not cost Experience Points to join. Society Membership requires being recorded on a character sheet by an existing member after completing listed membership requirements to be an official member of a group. Societies outlined by a Society Membership are specific to each branch (local game) and are not a part of any canon group or organization.
The traditions, steps of joining, and play expectations of these groups will be outlined here for players to consider before joining. This way, if one organization involves fatal CvC, players know what they are getting into and can opt into that sort of experience.
Contracts & Society Memberships (DR Larp Corebook, P. 106)
In our Texas game, your Society Membership represents contracts you have signed with one of the NPC factions in our game. When we refer to Society Memberships, you can assume the idea of Contracts is one and the same.
ANY character can join a Society Membership listed below, including visitors, new players, and returning players alike.
SOCIETY MEMBERSHIPS OF THE SAN SABA
There are eight possible NPC factions a player may join in the DR: Texas game, and two National factions. The first six local factions are also our primary Financial Institutions for use as per the Financial Influence skill. You do not need to be a member of a faction to support it financially.
Financial Influence & Financial Institutions (DR Larp Corebook, P. 120-122)

The Bravado Militia

THREE LEVELS OF FACTION MEMBERSHIP
Much like other skills and items, Society Membership in Bravado consists of three different levels - Basic, Proficient, and Master. There is no XP cost for adding an NPC Society Memberships to your sheet, but it must be signed off by the Public Works or a NPC member of that faction who feels that character has completed any requirements needed.
Each rank has a title associated with with the tier. Joining at the Basic level as a Contractor allows you to earn additional rewards from completing Work Orders, participate in ZOMs, interacting with NPCs, or attending Action Request mods.
Work Orders - There are two major types of Work Orders that you will encounter in game. A Contractor Work Order allows you to gain Society Membership with a faction and earn a signing bonus unique to the tasks you complete. A Supply Order requires you to have at least Basic Society Membership and often require the use of Skills or Profession Focus Achievements, but can offer greater monetary rewards for completing tasks.
Zone of Mechanics - Within the site, there will be unique ZOMs found within particular zones that may require the use of Society Membership. The more players that complete these ZOMs, the greater influence that faction can gain.
NPCs - Certain NPCs, like a Law Dog chasing down a Breacher, or a merchant friendly with a faction may request to see your contract.
Action Requests - A player with Master Society Membership can make an Action Request before a game to request a special mod for a particular Faction. That character can invite their friends to participate and they can earn a reward based on the level of their Society Membership.
The primary means that someone can join a faction is by completing a WORK ORDER, available from the Public Works or during Check-In. A character can complete ONE Work Order during an event. While it is possible to join multiple factions, they must normally do so one event at a time. Once completed, the character can claim Society Membership with a faction and is considered a Contractor for the purpose of ZOMs and plot mechanics.
CONTRACTOR (BASIC)
Basic Society Membership
In game, Society Membership at this level means you are a frequent ally of the faction, and take jobs with them from time to time. You are not considered truly part of the faction, but you are considered a friend.
Benefits:
For members of the San Saba Board affiliated factions, the character is considered a licensed citizen and is not a Vagrant.
Access to the Basic Buy List for your faction. You may only purchase an item from each tier once per event, regardless of the number of factions you are a member of.
Access to Faction Supply Order contracts from your faction(s).
Voting Rights:
No ability to vote in company affairs
Method of Earning
Completion of a CONTRACTOR WORK ORDER - available at the Public Works or during Check-In for new players
- OR -
Personal Plot Request before game, or possessing a signed Faction contract from 3.0 Season Two. If you had a significant connection with a faction last season, you can have Basic Society Membership added to your sheet during Check-In.
Restrictions
None. You can also be a Contractor (Basic) with any number of other factions, but you can only complete one Contractor Work Order per event to gain membership in faction. This means it will take multiple events to join multiple factions.
STAKEHOLDER (PROFICIENT)
Proficient Society Membership
In game, Society Membership at this level means you are officially part of the NPC faction, may benefit from its internal services, and have the right to vote during the Stakeholder meeting. You may still have some other affiliations but the faction may look down on too many loose liaisons with other companies.
Benefits
Access to the Proficient Buy List for your faction. You may only purchase an item from each tier once per event, regardless of the number of factions you are a member of.
Earns an additional faction bonus upon completing a Faction Supply Order contract. These will often require the use of a Skill favored by that faction to complete.
Access to the Stakeholders Meeting
Voting Rights:
Can vote as a stakeholder on board related votes, and often have a say in public affairs of the faction via votes.
Method of Earning
Make a Personal Plot Request, and complete a Faction Interview and task with an appointed representative of the faction.
-OR-
Investment of 100 brass with an NPC or the Post Office to purchase a “stake”.
Restrictions
A character can be a Stakeholder (Proficient) in three factions at a time. You can be a Contractor (Basic) with any number of other factions.
Repeated violations of Faction objectives can result in losing the title and rank of this Society Membership.
TRUSTEE (MASTER)
Master Society Membership
In game, Society Membership at this level means you are in a position with an expectation of extreme loyalty. Membership in other factions should be limited. You will be called upon to act in the best interest of the faction to whom you are a Trustee, and this may conflict with your other memberships.
Benefits
Access to the Master Buy List for your faction. You may only purchase an item from each tier once per event, regardless of the number of factions you are a member of.
Earns an additional faction bonus upon completing a Faction Supply Order contract. These will often require you use a Skill or Profession Focus Achievement favored by that faction to complete.
Access to the Stakeholders Meeting
Can access Action Requests for custom jobs, similar to Master Financial Influence. The reward for this job will be at least 10 brass per person or a Voucher for the Faction Buy List.
Voting Rights:
Can vote as a Stakeholder on related votes, and often have a say in public affairs of the faction as a trusted member of the faction.
Trustees have additional weight on their votes and actions in game.
Trustees can submit additional matters, laws, and amendments for the consideration of the San Saba Board during the annual Stakeholder’s Meeting
Method of Earning
Make an Action Request to complete a task for the faction. Each faction may have specific role play requirements that must be performed to join, and which may require additional mechanical prerequisites, such as profession focus achievements, to qualify. You can learn these requirements in game from a Faction Representative.
-OR-
Significant investment of 500 brass with an NPC or at the Post Office to purchase a “preferred stake”.
Restrictions
A character may only be a Trustee (Master) of one faction at a time. You may also be a Stakeholder (Proficient) with up to two other factions and may be a Contractor (Basic) with any number of other factions.
Repeated violations of Faction objectives can result in losing the title and rank of this Society Membership.
Characters should opt-in to the CvC/SES system if possible. You cannot be at this rank without attracting attention from enemies of the faction, and you should expect some risk to your character’s health, Infection, and even items.
STAKEHOLDER’S MEETING
While the San Saba Board is tasked with day-to-day decisions, each year the Stakeholders of the various factions are given a chance to voice their interests in the Stakeholder’s Meeting. During this event, new laws can be considered for addition to the charter, new factions may seek entry to the Board, and major decisions can be weighed by the populace. Only those that hold a Contract with one of the eight major factions may participate.
